MADISON — Chairman Al Veneziano and retired state trooper Ron Moody beat Jeff Foss for two seats on the Board of Selectmen.

Veneziano and Moody both won three-year terms with 336 and 327 votes, respectively. Foss lost with 249 votes. One hundred fourty-four blank ballots also were submitted.

Veneziano, 56, is the chairman of the Board of Selectmen and has served three terms on the board. A teacher at Madison Junior High School and the girls varsity basketball coach at Madison Area Memorial High School, Veneziano said preserving property values and helping the town move forward in the wake of the local paper mill’s closure are top priorities for him.

Moody, 69, is a retired Maine State Police trooper, a former selectman and a member of the town’s Budget Advisory Committee. During the campaign he said communication with residents was his highest priority and that he would like to see residents have more say in decisions, such as the loss of the curbside recycling program and the Madison Police Department consolidation. Foss, 40, is a sales manager at Hight Chevrolet in Skowhegan, owner of Jellystone Park at Yonderhill Campground in Madison, and a co-owner of II Rent Property Management, a property management company with rentals in Madison and Skowhegan. He was hoping to help the town partner more with Skowhegan, as well as focus on fostering small businesses in Madison.
