A Greenville woman missing since Monday morning was found alive Tuesday by the Maine Warden Service.

Clarice Jardine, 76, was found in the woods around 5 p.m. Tuesday, about 2 miles from where she last had been seen Monday morning in Greenville. Initial reports indicate that she was conscious and talking, according to a news release from the Maine Warden Service spokesman Cpl. John MacDonald.

Jardine was found by a search and rescue dog from the Maine Association of Search and Rescue. Search crews were getting to Jardine about an hour after she’d been found, and once she is brought out of the woods, medical personnel were expected to evaluate her condition, MacDonald said.

Jardine was last seen at 4:45 a.m. Monday, when she was leaving her home to go for a walk with her dog. When she did not return by mid-morning, her family called the Greenville police. Jardine reportedly has memory problems and has not driven a car in years, the release said.

The Warden Service searched with dog teams through Monday night and early into Tuesday morning, MacDonald said. After dark they attempted to find Jardine using whistles. The Maine Association of Search and Rescue search teams assisted the Warden Service in covering areas during the search.

Greenville police and the Fire Department, along with volunteers, assisted in the search.

No more information about the case was immediately available.
