Awards and Scholarships

The Bud Clough Athletic Memorial Scholarship was awarded in memory of Mr. Clough, a Winthrop resident and avid Winthrop High School sports fan. He contributed a great deal to the sports community including coaching, working on fields and attending most sporting events. This year the scholarship went to Brendon Dunn.

Two Winthrop Athletic Boosters’ Club Scholarships are given to one graduating senior boy and one graduating senior girl with athletic accomplishments and goals, good sportsmanship and promising athletic capability was presented to Derek McLaughlin and Julie McConnell.

The Frank Parker Memorial Scholarship was awarded to a senior to commemorate her dedication and devotion to her community and love of skiing went to Jada Choate.

The George F. Wilson Athletic Memorial Scholarship was started by Mr. Wilson’s granddaughter in his memory. He attended every Winthrop sporting event and once played baseball for the Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox. This year’s recipient was Ben Ames.

The Walter Taylor Memorial Scholarship is in memory of Mr. Taylor who loved to run many times a week. He also ran a few marathons and this scholarship is specifically for a student who loves to run. This year the award went to Jada Choate.

The Campbell Conference Football Scholarship was awarded to Andrew Cordes.

The Winthrop Educator Association Scholarship was awarded to Morgan Beland.

The Stephen Lincoln Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Erica Thibodeau.

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church Scholarship was awarded to Tessie Moody.

The Alfred W. Maxwell, Jr., American Legion Post 40 Scholarship was awarded to Raven Parker.

The Alfred W. Maxwell, Jr., American Legion Post 40 Howard Harriman Scholarship was awarded to Kennedy Connor.

Alfred W. Maxwell Jr. American Legion Auxiliary Unit 40 Scholarship was awarded to Morgan Beland.

The Wendy Lea Vigneault Memorial Scholarship went to Jada Choate.

Two Winthrop Rotary Club Scholarships were awarded to Kennedy Connor and Jessica Tozer.

Three RLC Engineering Scholarship were awarded to Danielle Kotow, Lydia Lavoie, Brendon Dunn.

The Winthrop Grange Scholarship was awarded to Jessica Tozer.

Three Winthrop Lions Club Scholarships were awarded to Jasmine Douglass, Noah Milliken, Jada Choate.

The Senator George J. Mitchell Scholarship Research Institute awards 129 Scholarships each year – one to a graduating senior from every public high school in Maine. The Scholarship award amount is $8,500. Each year there are more than 1,000 applications from across the state and the quality of the application pool is always very high. Please join me in congratulating this year’s Mitchell Scholar from Winthrop High School, Morgan Beland.

The Dana L. Childs Memorial Scholarship was awarded to a student seeking a degree in education. Dana was a 4th grade teacher for nearly two decades at the Winthrop Grade School encouraging students and instilling in them the confidence needed to succeed. This year the scholarship went to Kacie Beland

Two Charlie’s Chevrolet Scholarships were awarded to Emma Conrad and Julie McConnell.

The Thomas Calcagni Memorial Scholarship. Thomas came to America in 1905 with no money and no education but he did have to the desire to learn. The scholarship is given annually to a deserving student. This year it was awarded to Jada Choate

The Annabessacook Lake Improvement Association Scholarship was awarded to Brendon Dunn.

The St. Laurent Scholarship was awarded to Morgan Beland.

The Lee St. Hilaire Scholarship was awarded to Brendon Dunn.

The Kelsey Stoneton Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Danielle Kotow.

Augusta Kiwanis Club Scholarship goes to a deserving student who has displayed community and school service with consideration given to a student’s academic achievement, character, and leadership capabilities. This year the Scholarship was awarded to Derek McLaughlin.

Eva King Bailey Foundation Fund Scholarships are given to 4 graduating seniors who wish to attend an institution of higher learning. These went to Anthony Owens, Jada Choate, Raven Parker and Samantha Phinney.

The Germaine Auclair Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a deserving senior with a love for education and academic promise. This year the award went to Alison Berube.

The Avis Adams Cadwell Memorial Scholarship was awardedannually to a graduate residing in Winthrop who has been accepted at an accredited institution. The student must be pursuing a career in nursing or in a health care related field. It is based on academic achievement and commitment to pursue the chosen health care field. This year the Scholarship was awarded to Olivia Audet.

Two Harry and Flora May Davis Memorial Scholarships were awarded to Jasmine Douglass and Noah Milliken.

Winthrop Area Federal Credit Union Scholarships go to deserving graduates who are also members of the credit union. This year the students were Morgan Beland and Noah Milliken.

The Ron Cross Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Celeste Hannum.

The P. Daniel Coyne Scholarship are awarded to students who have exhibited evidence of personal growth. This year the scholarships went to Tessie Moody and Lydia Lavoie.

The Sandie Belden Memorial Scholarship. Walter Belden started this scholarship in memory of his wife who was a Winthrop graduate. The scholarship was awarded to a graduating senior pursuing a degree in the health care field. This year’s scholarship was awarded to Jada Choate.

Stanley Kanzey Memorial Scholarships are awarded to the students who choose to pursue a college or university education Taylor Beaucage, Kacie Beland, Jessica Tozer, Samantha Phinney and Alison Berube, Ian VanTwistern, Brendon Dunn, Lydia Lavoie, Noah Milliken and Tessie Moody.

The Bud Clough Vocational Memorial Scholarship was awarded to a student who has participated in a vocational program of studies while attending Winthrop High School. The 2016 recipient is Alison Berube.

The MELMAC Education Foundation Maine Principals’ Scholarship was awarded to a senior who makes a difference in the lives of others, is a solid school citizen and has made a positive contribution to the school environment. This year the award went to Samantha Phinney.

The Del Bissonette Memorial Scholarship was awarded to a senior who has displayed outstanding qualities of personality and character. Who has maintained a high scholastic record, been a member of one or more of the school’s athletic teams and has contributed to the well-being of the school and community. This year the award was given to Kennedy Connor.

Ramsdell Memorial Fund Scholarships are awarded to graduating students based on being all-around students and having participated in activities within their church. The award went to Samantha Phinney, Jessica Tozer and Derek McLaughlin.

The Nellie M. Tuttle Memorial Valedictorian Scholarship was awarded to Tyler Nussinow.

The Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Augusta Lodge 964 Scholarship was started 26 years ago. Students from six area schools are eligible for 22 scholarships annually. This year a scholarship was awarded to Kennedy Connor.

The Maine Community College system established a scholarship to encourage students to further their education This year two Maine Community College System 2016 Early College for ME Scholarships were awarded to Jasmine Douglass and Taylor Beaucage.

The Helena Bissonette Seamans Memorial Scholarships are awarded to seniors who have displayed outstanding qualities of personality and character This year’s award went to Olivia Audet and Celeste Hannum.

The Martha Williams Memorial Scholarship was awarded to a senior who has demonstrated an interest and talent in any of the art forms, music or poetry. The 2016 award went to Raven Parker.

The Marshall Hills Memorial Scholarship was started in 2000 by Joan hills in memory of her husband Marshall who was the town manager for Winthrop for many years. This year the award went to Joshua Ward.

The Fifteenth Alabama Infantry Division Scholarship was awarded to Celeste Hannum.

Maine Community Foundation Philip, David and Stephen Kelley Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student pursing a vocational or community college degree. The award went to Jasmine Douglass.

The Jeanette Cumber Memorial Scholarship was awarded to student pursuing further education and have a love of music. This year 2 scholarships were awarded to Jada Choate and Olivia Audet.

The Winthrop High School Class of 1965 awarded a scholarship to Tessie Moody.

The Pamela Webb Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Erica Thibodeau.

The Glenn S. Hayford Memorial Scholarship was awarded to a student who is very fond of music, sports and everything to do with the outdoors. This year’s award went to Nicholas Dwelle.

The Alice Whiting Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Rachel Froom.
