New Portland Community Library recently announced the winners of its 2016 Poetry Contest offered to local secondary schools. Ethan Johnson won first place and a $25 cash prize for his entry “Camo.” Sarah Olson won second place and a $10 cash prize for her entry “I Was Never Myself.”

Students were allowed to submit one poem, any style, any topic. Both students are seventh graders at Carrabec Community School and were encouraged to enter by their teacher, Priscilla Ellis.
