Personnel from the Saco Fire Department, the Coast Guard and the Maine Marine Patrol responded to a boat fire off Wood Island near the mouth of the Saco River on Tuesday morning.

The fire department received the call around 7:40 a.m.

By the time rescue and fire boats arrived, the owner of the burning boat, Timothy Lenz, 61, of Westport, had been rescued by another boater. Lenz was transferred to a Marine Patrol boat and taken to Camp Ellis for medical evaluation. He did not require treatment and was released.

The 31-foot motorboat eventually sank in about 100 feet of water.

The cause of the fire was not immediately available.
