ROCHESTER, N.H. — The Augusta 13-and-under Babe Ruth team opened up New England regional play with a bang Sunday, turning aside the host team 10-4 in pool play action.
“We came to play,” Augusta coach Jason Douin said. “We wanted to be aggressive and we were. It’s nice to get out ahead in the tournament.”
Augusta (1-0) plated five runs in the second inning to essentially put the game away.
Nick Barber highlighted the rally with a two-run single.
Logan Dupont added a two-run double later in the fourth to pace Augusta as well.
“We played well,” Douin said.
Akira Warren struck out five in five innings, allowing just one earned run, to earn the victory.
Augusta (1-0) will face Western Massachusetts in pool play action Monday at 10 a.m.
