A 17-year-old boy was killed Sunday afternoon when the car he was a passenger in went off Lakeview Road in Milo and hit a tree.
Sgt. Robert Cook of the Milo Police Department said the boy was a passenger in the rear seat of the two-door sedan. The 17-year-old driver and another passenger, 16, were transported to Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft with unknown injuries.
Cook said speed was likely a factor in the crash, which was reported around 1:20 p.m. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Cook said he was uncertain which high school the three attended. The local high school in Milo is Penquis Valley High School.
Maine State Police are helping Milo police with reconstruction of the crash scene. Milo is located in Piscataquis County.
