There are plenty of problems in this state, but one of them is that small fire departments throughout Maine are not getting enough volunteers, which makes it hard on small towns, such as Industry.
Those small departments sometimes have to call other towns to fight bigger fires. They are trying to get people into firefighting, but when they do learn how to be a firefighter, they often go to bigger communities, such as Portland and Bangor.
Maybe towns could reduce the property taxes of those who volunteer to serve as firefighters in order to get more volunteers.
