I want to introduce myself as a candidate for election to the Maine House of Representatives. I am Wendy S. Ross, and I am a Democrat running for the seat that represents the towns of Wiscasset, Alna, Pittston and Randolph — House District 87.

I want to use my talents to improve the standard of life for all Mainers. I will fight to increase access to health care, to fully fund local schools, to raise the minimum wage, to promote family friendly policies, and reduce local taxes.

My family has long ties to Maine going back generations. I have lived full time in Lincoln County since I retired some 12 years ago and moved into my family home on the Foye-Sortwell farm in Wiscasset.

I have always considered Maine home, although my career as a professional journalist covering national politics took me away too often. My work has given me a unique view into the legislative process and how representatives either succeed or fail to make change by working across the aisle. I hope to take those lessons to Augusta to make positive change for the people of Maine.

Since retiring, I have been active in local organizations. I serve as president of the board of the Wiscasset Public Library and on the board of Grandmothers for Reproductive Rights. I have also served on the boards of the Lincoln County Historical Association, the Garden Club of Wiscasset, Citizens Offering New Alternatives (CONA) and have done fundraising for the Sheepscot Valley Conservation Association, now known as Midcoast Conservancy.

My husband is Tom Eichler. We have four grown sons and two grandsons — all of whom love Maine. Please feel free to contact me with your concerns at 882-7060 or by email at wsross21@gmail.com.
