I have always felt pride to be a Mainer, for our work ethic, integrity, strong values, and respect of humanity and human rights. Then along came Paul LePage, and I felt embarrassment for our state. There is no question he is an angry man and a bully. What I believe is underlying is a wounded soul, and for that I do have compassion.

I have been waiting with bated breath to hear the decision that Sen. Susan Collins would make in regard to supporting Donald Trump’s candidacy. She has made it clear that she will not. Now once again I can feel a pride for our state with a shout of “Hooray.” She has not disappointed. How brave and courageous. She can stand tall with Margaret Chase Smith, Olympia Snowe and Angus King, our representatives I have admired for their integrity, dignity and strong values for the rights of all.

And I am a registered Democrat.
