WATERVILLE — A body was recovered Tuesday morning in the Kennebec River near the Lockwood Dam at Ticonic Falls, police said.

As of 12:45 p.m., Waterville police said they were working with Maine State Police to investigate the incident and no further information could be released yet.

Police did not have the identity of the person whose body was found after being reported shortly before 8 a.m.

Waterville Fire Department officials recovered the body from the riverside parking lot of the Hathaway Creative Center around 11:40 a.m. Firefighters deployed boats to reach the body, which was pushed up against the gates by the dam, according to Fire Chief David LaFountain. State police were also at the scene.

Steve McCausland, spokesman for the state police, did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday on the police investigation and whether the body had undergone an autopsy by the medical examiner’s office.
