FARMINGTON — The 176th annual Farmington Fair kicks off Sunday for a full week of agricultural exhibits and demonstrations, steer shows and horse pulls, drag racing, live music and plenty of fair foods and rides.

The fair is sponsored by the Franklin County Agricultural Society. Gates open 8:30 a.m. Sunday at the Farmington Fair Grounds on the corner of Maple Avenue and High Street.

Sunday’s roster of events starts with the 4-H working steer pull, followed by Maine barrel racing at 10 a.m. The inaugural day of the fair wraps up with the Miss Farmington Fair Pageant at 6:30 p.m. at the pulling ring.

The fair ends Saturday, Sept. 24, with a demolition derby at 7 p.m. at the race grandstand.

Exhibits from the Western Maine Beekeepers and the Western Maine Blacksmiths will be on display all week. Maple syrup demonstrations also will be held daily.

Admission is $6 for ages 12 and older, $2 for children ages 8 to 11, and free for children 7 and under. On Tuesday and Thursday, people ages 62 and older will be admitted for $2. There is also a $3 fee to park at the fair.
