AUGUSTA — Crisis & Counseling Centers has opened a Later Life Counseling program, providing senior-focused behavioral health services for adults 65 and older in Kennebec and Somerset counties.

The Later Life Counseling clinicians are trained to address mental health issues that may be related to aging, including difficulty with mind and body changes, grief, feelings of isolation, substance abuse and trouble with motor skills.

Any individual 65 and older may be eligible for the services. With support from the United Way of Kennebec Valley, residents of UWKV-served towns may qualify to receive free services through June 2017 if they lack or have limited insurance.

Counseling sessions will largely be provided in C&C’s Augusta office, but clients may be eligible for services in the home or in community settings, such as retirement villages or senior centers, depending on their situation.
