A man is being held on $1 million cash bail after he allegedly stabbed a Lewiston police corporal during an altercation early Monday, authorities said.

Jonathan Order, 27, of Lewiston stabbed Cpl. Michael Dumond five times in the upper torso and hand, according to Lewiston’s interim chief of police, Brian T. O’Malley.

Dumond was treated at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for wounds that were not life-threatening, and released.

Order is facing eight felony charges. The most serious is aggravated attempted murder, a Class A offense.

Lewiston police were called to a College Street apartment about 2:30 a.m. Monday to help apprehend Order, who was wanted by the Sabattus Police Department.

Sabattus police sought Order on a charge of a domestic violence aggravated assault in connection with an incident that happened shortly after midnight.

Order refused to open the door of his apartment at 113 College St. to officers, and made threatening comments, police said.

Officers had been talking with him for about 30 minutes when he opened the door and stabbed Dumond before retreating back into his apartment and barring the door, police said.

Order surrendered shortly thereafter and was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, where he was found in possession of drugs. He also assaulted two corrections officers there, police said.

In addition to aggravated attempted murder, Order was charged with two counts of assault on an officer, two counts of assault on corrections officers, trafficking in prison contraband, violating conditions of release, and aggravated assault domestic violence in connection with the incident in Sabattus.
