AUGUSTA — No one was injured but more than a thousand dollars of damage resulted when a car crashed into the front entrance of Little Caesars pizza restaurant on Western Avenue Tuesday morning, according to a post on the Augusta Police Department Facebook page.

“Workers at Little Caesars were inside getting ready to open, but no one was near when the building was struck,” police wrote.

The driver of the car, Joanne Chateauvert, 79, of Hallowell, was wearing her seatbelt and wasn’t hurt during the accident, police said.

A photo shared on the police department’s Facebook page showed at least two broken windows near the entrance of the business and shards of glass on the ground and on the hood of a car parked nearby.

The accident occurred around 11 a.m. Tuesday, and by 12:40 p.m. employees were again preparing to open the restaurant, said Angela Richardson, a manager of the Little Caesars. After the crash, they cleaned up the glass and boarded up the windows, Richardson said.

Richardson declined to say anything more about the accident.
