A Bath man who was charged with indecent conduct and burglary after he allegedly broke into a woman’s home and exposed himself to her was sentenced to 49 months in prison.

Investigations by the Bath and Brunswick police departments found that Stephen McIntire, 55, had been spying on women in Brunswick, including taking “nonconsensual videos” of people inside their homes both on the Bowdoin College campus and off campus.

The investigation stemmed from an incident on Nov. 24, 2015, in which Bath police were called to a home on Cherry Street by a woman who said she was hiding in her bedroom and a man was trying to get in. The 28-year-old woman said she had come home to find the man sitting on her couch exposing himself, police said.

That incident drew the attention of Brunswick police, who had been investigating a series of “peeping Tom” reports on and around the Bowdoin campus.

Police say McIntire was a member of a support group for convicted sex offenders that had been meeting at a Brunswick church until the group was told to meet elsewhere following a Nov. 10 sexual assault on the nearby Bowdoin campus.

During the police investigation into that crime, police found McIntire’s videos and charged him with six misdemeanor charges of violation of privacy.

The Sagadahoc and Cumberland County district attorneys’ offices reached a resolution in the cases against McIntire, who pleaded guilty to two counts of violation of privacy and admitted to a motion to revoke his probation.
