Biddeford and Maine State Police are investigating the shooting death of a 30-year-old man early Monday.

The victim was identified as Jonathan Methot, a resident of a duplex apartment at 68-70 West Cutts St. in Biddeford, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The shooting was reported shortly after 1 a.m. Police have not said if anyone has been questioned or charged in connection with the shooting, but a neighbor said police told her they were looking for two suspects.

Detectives were at the scene with a state police crime scene unit throughout Monday morning. Police blocked drivers and pedestrians from entering West Cutts Street. On Monday afternoon, a police dog was brought to the scene.

West Cutts Street is a dead-end road just off Main Street near the Saco River and the downtown area.

Biddeford police confirmed the shooting happened at 70 West Cutts St. but would not say if police have been called to respond to incidents at that address before, citing the ongoing investigation.

Chrystal Hitchcock, who lives across from 70 West Cutts St., told WCSH-TV that police told her they were looking for two suspects in the shooting.

“This isn’t something you want to wake up to,” Hitchcock told the Portland TV station. “It’s definitely time to go.”

Investigators said they’re looking into the possibility the shooting was drug-related, WCSH reported.

Methot had a criminal history in Maine dating back to 2005. Most of the charges were misdemeanors, including operating under the influence, but he also was convicted of felony drug trafficking and furnishing scheduled drugs, according to state records.

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner and Attorney General’s Office have been notified, McCausland said.
