A Fairfield man who allegedly drove 98 mph in a 35 mph zone while intoxicated in Fairfield late Tuesday was arrested just over the Norridgewock town line and taken to jail, police said.
Calvin D. Crowell, 19, of 20 Ohio Hill Road, Fairfield, was arrested by Fairfield police Officer Jordan Brooks at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Fairfield police Chief Tom Gould. Brooks used radar to clock Crowell’s vehicle at 98 mph on Norridgewock Road, according to Gould.
The vehicle, a 2008 Pontiac G6, drove through Fairfield Center at the Ohio Hill Road intersection of routes 139 and 23 at that speed and continued north, Gould said.
“Officer Brooks turned on the vehicle and pursued it for over five miles,” Gould said. “A passenger in the vehicle was finally able to convince the driver to pull over, just over the Norridgewock town line.”
Crowell was arrested and charged with criminal speeding, a Class E crime, failure to stop for an officer, also Class E, driving to endanger, Class E, and operating under the influence, Class D, according to Gould.
He was taken to Somerset County Jail in East Madison and later released on $500 bail, Gould said.
Crowell is scheduled to appear in Skowhegan District Court on Dec. 14, according to the chief.
