SKOWHEGAN — The Somerset Family Arts Festival is set for noon-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Bigelow Brewing Company.
The event will feature more than a dozen local painters, sculptors and fiber artists will give demonstrations, children’s writers and illustrators Russ Cox and Hazel Mitchell will conduct book readings and signings.
A selection of local farm-to-table fare will include include doughnuts, cider, apples, cheese and bread baked on site in Bigelow’s outdoor wood-fired oven.
Music will be provided by the Muddy Marsh Ramblers, a Portland-based bluegrass band, and Amanda Landry, a local singer-songwriter.
Children’s activities will include face painting, a Bernard Langlais-inspired wood activity, and ceramic mosaic creations. Contradancing is set for 1-2 p.m.
The festival is sponsored by Skowhegan Savings Bank and all proceeds will benefit the Somerset Cultural Planning Committee. A collaboration between the Wesserunsett Arts Council and Main Street Skowhegan, the committee is initiating a yearlong process to craft a cultural plan that will help guide tourism efforts and ultimately boost economic and community development throughout Somerset County.
Tickets cost $20 for adults 21-plus and include four craft beer sampler vouchers; there is no charge for children and adults younger than 21.
