PINKHAM NOTCH, N.H. — Rescuers came to the aid of two Mount Washington skiers who were overtaken by darkness as they tried to descend a trail.
The skiers said they had one light and it failed as they hiked down the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail on Sunday. They had not taken any other lights with them other than their cellphones, which they used to call for help.
Conservation officers hiked up to find the skiers, who had made their way unknowingly to an area near the trail.
The pair were identified as 25-year-old Loudon Fruth, of Huntsville, Utah, and 26-yeasr-old Michael Nocek, of Greenwich, Connecticut. Both were cold and wet, but otherwise fine.
