A home on North Palermo Road was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning, and the state fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause.
Firefighters were called to the scene about 1:45 a.m., according to Fire Chief Assistant H. Scott Christiansen. The single-family home, at 2570 North Palermo Road near the Freedom town line, was on fire when crews arrived.
The home was occupied, but no one was there when fire crews arrived, Christiansen said, and there were no injuries.
Crews from Palermo, South China, China Village, Freedom, Montville and Liberty went to put out the blaze, and firefighters left the scene around 6:30 a.m., Christiansen said.
Sgt. Ken Grimes, of the state fire marshal’s office, said Wednesday that the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“It may take a couple of days to classify the cause,” Grimes said.
