Before this year I knew very little about the Kennebec County board of county commissioners. That changed when Patsy Crockett came to my door while campaigning in my community. She was appointed by the governor to fill a vacancy in the District 1 commissioner seat, and has been doing the job since late last winter. She took the time to tell me about how the commissioners manage the duties of Kennebec County, including operation of the county jail, overseeing the work of the sheriff’s office, the Registry of Deeds and the Registry of Probate. She asked for my thoughts on some current county issues like overcrowding at the jail, and the heroin epidemic affecting our communities.

I feel better informed as a result, and will be voting for her on Nov. 8.
