In addition to providing emergency shelter for those in need of it, WMHO has also been highly successful this past year in helping shelter guests move into permanent housing, thanks in large part to the initiative and leadership of the shelter’s manager, Tricia Plourde, and to the generosity of donors throughout western Maine. Friends of the shelter have not only provided financial support but have also supplied the shelter with everyday housekeeping items like paper towels, toilet paper, disinfectant wipes, all-purpose cleaner, and trash bags, not to mention gifts of furniture for guests moving into rental housing and a much needed new clothes dryer for the shelter. For all these gifts from the community, the shelter’s guests, staff, and board are most grateful.
