Although I am a firm believer in the voice of the people, the passage of Question 2 is, I feel, a travesty. The people of Maine were presented with initiatives for lottery and casinos with the promise it would fund education. All those initiatives passed with flying colors. The lottery and casinos flourish. My question is, what has happened to those funds?
That question should have been answered before gainfully employed citizens were punished with a new tax. The state of Maine has continually cut funds for education, short-changing students and educators alike. Where is the guarantee the funds from this new tax will not be funneled into whatever project that comes up, deemed to be more important than schools and kids?
