Businesses and others interested in participating in the Annual Winthrop Holiday Parade should sign up with the Winthrop Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce no later than Sunday, according to a news release from the chamber.

The parade has been a tradition for the last 31 years, drawing hundreds of people to downtown Winthrop to enjoy the festive, family-fun holiday event. This year, the parade is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Dec. 3. The line-up starts at 2:30 p.m. at the top of Main Street near the Cumberland Farms store.

The parade is an opportunity for participants to advertise a business or organization and to showcase holiday creativity. Participation can be as simple as having a couple of people in costumes walking with a banner — or a full-scale float loaded with decorations.

Though the parade is in Winthrop, businesses, schools, and groups in the chamber’s region, including Wayne, Readfield, Manchester, Monmouth, Fayette and Mount Vernon, are encouraged to take part. Riding clubs and other groups with animals are also welcome to participate. This year, we are encouraging live music, so if you are involved with a musical group, please consider joining in the holiday fun.

Those who wish to participate should go to the chamber’s website, www.winthropchamber.org/programs-events, to fill out the parade participation form and mail or scan and email it to the chamber. No one will be allowed to take part in the parade without filling out a form. The deadline for submitting the form is Sunday.
