At Tate House, a look at Christmas past – with snacks

Take a peek into Christmas past at the Tate House Museum’s Colonial Christmas Open House, held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Docents in 18th-century attire will greet visitors to the 1755 home of Capt. George Tate, who was an affluent mast agent, and his wife, Mary. Visitors will learn about the customs of the time, including what sort of food and drink the Tates served at Christmas and why the family celebrated the holiday though many of their neighbors did not.

Sweet and savory treats will be served across the street at the Means House.

Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children under 12.
