AUGUSTA — The Maine Warden Service is getting new mapping software courtesy of a hunting and fishing club in Westbrook.
Forest City Rod & Gun Club is providing enough Delorme Earthmate software programs for every Maine game warden. Earthmate is a GPS navigation app designed for mobile devices with detailed GPS trip logging, location sharing and tracking.
The announcement was made this week at an annual Game Warden Appreciation night.
Maine’s chief game warden, Col. Joel Wilkinson, said the gift will help wardens during search and rescue missions “and could possibly save lives.”
The 100-member-strong Forest City Rod and Gun Club in Westbrook was established in 1948 and remains one of Maine’s oldest clubs of its kind.
