U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, broke her right ankle in two places after she slipped and fell on ice in Bangor, according to a Facebook post she made Thursday. Collins’ spokeswoman said the accident happened at the senator’s home.
Collins, who turned 64 this month, posted a photo of her lower leg and foot in a cast and quipped that like New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, she too was now on the injured reserve list but on her way to recovery.
Collins’ spokeswoman said the senator doesn’t expect to miss any time in Congress because of the injury.
“She will be back in Washington for votes on Jan. 3rd,” Annie Clark said in an email. “Her injury will certainly present some logistical challenges for the next couple months, but at this point she is not expecting to miss any work. ”
Collins thanked the surgeon and his staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor.
“My ankle was broken in two places, but thanks to a successful surgery at St. Joseph Hospital with Dr. Jacob Brooks and his team, I am on the road to recovery,” Collins wrote.
Within 45 minutes of her posting her misfortune, more than 65 people had responded to wish Collins well.
