The executive director of a local sexual assault crisis and support center will speak Jan. 5 at the Winthrop Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce breakfast.

Donna Strickler leads the center, which has helped sexual assault survivors for 29 years. Last year, it provided support for 15,000 men, women and children in Kennebec and Somerset counties who have been sexually violated.

The breakfast is from 7:15 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. at the Winthrop Commerce Center Community Room. It is $7 for members and $10 for all others. There will be a light breakfast with gluten-free and vegetarian options.

The Winthrop-based organization provides several free services including a 24/7 hotline, sexual assault education, guidance and advocacy for adults and children who need counseling and help navigating the criminal justice system.

The Winthrop chamber awarded the center the 2016 Community Service Award.
