AUGUSTA — A man arrested on North Street in Augusta late last year was indicted Friday on a number of aggravated drug trafficking charges.

Alex L. Brumfield, 29, most recently of Windsor and Augusta, was charged with aggravated trafficking in cocaine base and two counts of aggravated trafficking in heroin that occurred in Augusta between Sept. 26 and Nov. 9, 2016.

He also faced one count of unlawful possession of heroin Nov. 9, 2016, and is charged with criminal forfeiture of $2,196 in cash and a handgun seized Nov. 9, 2016, from a North Street apartment.

Brumfield, formerly of Rochester, New York, has remained in the Kennebec County jail since then in lieu of $20,000 cash bail and a Maine Pretrial Services contract. Brumfield is represented by attorney Matthew Bowe.

The indictment says the aggravated drug trafficking charges occurred in a safe zone near a school or park.

Complaints filed at the Capital Judicial Center allege that Brumfield was dealing drugs from a Washington Street apartment, where a confidential informant with a recording device purchased cocaine and heroin from him in September 2016. They also say Brumfield sold heroin from a North Street apartment Nov 3, 2016.

The case was investigated by Augusta Police and Kennebec Sheriff’s Office deputies.

An indictment is not a determination of guilt, but it indicates that there is enough evidence to proceed with formal charges and a trial.

Two men from Miami, Florida, Zane L. Moore, 27, and Robert J. Germroth Jr., 29, were indicted on charges of aggravated criminal mischief and criminal trespass. According to the indictment, the two damaged or destroyed railway boxcars Sept. 20, 2016, in Benton that belonged to Pan Am Railways.

Carey, 22, of Augusta, two counts of unlawful possession of heroin and cocaine base and one count each of unlawful trafficking of cocaine base and refusing to submit to arrest, all Sept. 21, 2016; operating after suspension Sept. 19, 2016, and criminal forfeiture of $809 seized Sept. 21, 2016, all in Augusta.

• Caleb A. Castranda, 24, of Hinckley, burglary, assault and criminal mischief Oct. 12, 2016, in Oakland.

• Kassey Marie Corbin, 23, of Waterville, theft by unauthorized taking Aug. 21, 2016, in Waterville.

• James R. Cormier, 26, of Augusta, unlawful possession of heroin July 26, 2016, in Augusta.

McLaughlin was convicted in November 2016 of dealing drugs from a hotel room in Augusta and is awaiting sentencing. The indictment says he had contact with a co-defendant.

• Larry Murphy, 43, of Augusta, aggravated trafficking in heroin and unlawful trafficking in heroin Aug. 17, 2016, and aggravated trafficking in heroin and unlawful trafficking in heroin Nov. 9, 2016, all in Augusta.

• Nicholas Ryan Nelson, 26, of Fairfield, theft by unauthorized taking and burglary of a motor vehicle Sept. 24, 2016, in Waterville.

• Ruben D. Rincon, 33, of Waterville, aggravated trafficking in fentanyl and/or acetyl fentanyl, unlawful possession of cocaine, and three counts of criminal forfeiture involving two separate amounts of cash, $160 and $3,480, as well as a 9 mm handgun, all Nov. 9, 2016, in Waterville.
