With the inauguration of Donald the Terrible looming and all sensitive people of any and all persuasions cringing in terror at what awaits them, please allow me to quote from the official White House transcript of remarks from President Barack Obama at the first White House Correspondents’ Dinner of the Obama administration, on May 9, 2009:

“I am Barack Obama. Most of you covered me. All of you voted for me. (Laughter and applause) Apologies to the Fox (News) table. (Laughter) They’re — where are they?” (Laughter)

At the beginning of the Obama administration in 2009, the Democrats had the White House, a solid majority in the Congress and were one vote short of a veto-proof majority in the Senate — a political perfect storm. Eight years later that is all gone.

This country needs both political parties strong, and if they are squabbling with each other, that’s the nature of the beast. It also needs a less-biased press, which starts with the press realizing that we — the gum-chewing public — have noticed.

FYI, I am a Republican and a practicing Catholic.
