Firefighters late Wednesday afternoon were at the scene of a fire in the former San Antonio Shoe factory on Waverly Avenue in Pittsfield.
A Somerset County Communications Center dispatcher said she did not immediately have information about the fire and the Pittsfield Fire Department couldn’t be reached throughout the evening.
San Antonio Shoe, which was in operation from 1984 to 2008, was located in the former Waverly Woolen Mill building that closed in the early 1940s, according to Pittsfield Historical Society’s website. After the closing, the building housed Medwed Shoe for a time and then was the site of Northeast Shoe, according to the website.
