A trio of central Maine basketball players are among the 20 semifinalists for Mr. and Miss Maine Basketball.

Mason Cooper of Lawrence and Jacob Hickey of Winthrop are semifinalists for Mr. Basketball, while Sophie Holmes of Messalonskee is a semifinalist for Miss Basketball. Three finalists for each award will be announced next week, with the two winners named at the annual awards banquet on Friday, March 10 at the Anah Shrine Hall in Bangor.

Joining Cooper and Hickey as Mr. Basketball semifinalists: Jack Casale (Cheverus), Colin Coyne (Falmouth), Matt McDevitt (Greely), Jordan Bagshaw (Greely), Cameron Allaire (Medomak Valley), Riley Swanson (Mt. Desert Island), Nate Desisto (Orono), and Justin Thompson (Schneck).

Along with Holmes, the semifinalists for Miss Basketball are: Katie Butler (Bangor), Megan Peach (Dexter), Jordyn Reynolds (Edward Little), Morgan Daulk (George Stevens Academy), Emily Esposito (Gorham), Emi Higgins (Hermon), Rylee Warman (Houlton), Emily Lagerstrom (Presque Isle), and Emma Alley (Stearns).

A number of area players were selected to take part in the McDonald’s Senior All-Star Basketball games, scheduled for March 11 at Husson University in Bangor.

Playing for AA/A/B Girls North will be Holmes; Lauren Chadwick and Mary Toman of Gardiner; and Heather Kervin of Winslow. Playing for AA/A/B Boys North are Nate Violette of Messalonskee and Cooper. Messalonskee girls basketball coach Keith Derosby will coach the AA/A/B girls, while Jason Cassidy of Gardiner will coach the AA/A/B boys.

Selected to the C/D Girls South squad are: Caitlin Logston of Forest Hills; Alora Ross of Mt. Abram; Temple Academy teammates Kiara Carr and Veronica Rossignol; and Winthrop’s Shie Smith. Joe Burnham of Winthrop and Mike Gorman of Temple will coach the team.

Playing for C/D Boys South are: Mitch Jarvais and Nick Morales of Madison; Dustin Crawford of Carrabec; Matt Holt of Richmond; Austin Cates of Valley; and Hickey.

Toman was named to the girls all-state academic team. Violette, Hickey, and Brendan Curran of Skowhegan were named to the boys all-state academic team.
