Highlights of the Mercer town meeting and election, held Saturday.

BUDGET: $349,532 budget approved, including $296,836 to be raised from taxation and $55,696 to be raised from surplus.

MAJOR ITEMS APPROVED: $136,000 for winter road maintenance, $85,000 for summer road maintenance, $48,582 for town officers, $31,000 for the Town Office, Shaw Library. Municipal Center and town expense, $25,000 for solid waste disposal, recycling, and blue bag purchase, $20,135 for public safety.

MAJOR ITEMS REJECTED: none

ATTENDANCE: 49

CONTESTED ELECTIONS: Yolanda Violette was re-elected to the positions of town clerk, tax collector and treasurer. Vernon E. Worthen and Christopher Tibbetts were re-elected to the Select Board. Norman Redlevske was elected to the Select Board to replace Robert E. Gardner. Jane Wallace was re-elected to a five-year term as Shaw Library trustee. Joan Nunnally was re-elected as a write-in candidate to a three-year term on the Planning Board.
