Scarborough High School’s Academic Decathlon team is heading to the national competition in April after winning the state meet on March 4.

The 2016-17 meet, held at Scarborough High School, focused on the topic of World War II, said Jon York, a teacher and assistant coach. Students took part in competitive testing in 10 areas related to that era, including economics, literature, art, music, social studies, science and math.

Team members who competed in the state meet were David Flewelling, Allison Lafferty, Evan Kane, Ian Youth, Sam Curtis, Eric Huber, Thomas Vachon, Katherine Kenney and Raja Muthyam. About a dozen high schools participated.

Now the team is trying to raise $5,000 to attend the United States Academic Decathlon on April 20-22 in Madison, Wisconsin. To make a donation, visit the crowd-funding website youcaring.com and search for Scarborough High School.
