A 36-year-old Augusta man was arrested Monday morning on a charge of aggravated assault after police responded to a complaint of domestic violence.

On Sunday night, Quincy Tremaine Abrams allegedly assaulted a woman living with him in an apartment on Eastern Avenue, said Lt. Chris Read, of the Augusta Police Department. Abrams was found at his apartment and taken to the Kennebec County jail, where he is being held without bail.

The alleged assault involved a handgun, but the weapon was not fired during the altercation, Read said. Police found and seized the firearm. They also charged Abrams with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and placed a hold on his probation.

Read declined to provide specifics about the alleged assault, but he said the woman complained of suffering minor injuries during the altercation.

Several different factors can lead to an assault being considered aggravated, including whether a dangerous weapon is used.
