Our representative to Congress, Bruce Poliquin, recently announced his support for the GOP proposal to replace the Affordable Care Act. This was a decision he made with little or no input from the people in the district he represents.

We believe were he to have taken the time to analyze the situation of many of the people in the 2nd Congressional District, he might realize that the GOP proposal does not help but, in fact, would be detrimental to a great many of his constituents who will lose their medical insurance or pay much more for it. The proposal would, in fact, benefit people with higher incomes who would receive a significant tax cut.

We believe he has the obligation to meet with his constituents to explain and at least try to convince us of the wisdom of his decision. Rather, he remains stubborn in his refusal to have town meetings to give us a chance to voice our concerns and a chance to persuade us that the GOP proposal is good for Mainers in his district. It is this kind of behavior that causes us to believe that Rep. Poliquin seems to worry very little about his people here in Maine as long as he can support the leadership of his party.
