AUGUSTA — The Rev. Joan Smith, of Augusta, served as Pastor of the Day April 13 and delivered the opening prayer in the Maine Senate.

New to the congregation this month, Smith presides as interim pastor over services at South Parish Congregational Church in Augusta, a congregational parish dating back to the 1770’s. Prior to joining South Parish, Smith served as interim minister in Maine and Vermont, serving most recently in Belfast, Brooks and Vinalhaven.

“It was an honor to meet Reverend Smith and have her open our day in prayer in the Senate,” said Sen. Roger Katz, R-Augusta. “I wish her luck in her new role as interim pastor down the road at the South Parish Congregational Church.
