Recently I discovered a gem in our midst filled with wonderful people.

After having unexpected brain surgery in Portland at the Maine Medical Center, I was given the option of continuing my treatment at the New England Rehabilitation Hospital or returning to my home community. I chose to come back to Augusta and be admitted to the Physical Rehabilitation Unit at the Maine General Medical Center. What a good decision.

This 20-bed unit is filled with outstanding staff who had my desire to get home as their priority. Every member of the staff on this unit contributed to me getting better. They worked very well together and respected each other’s job. They liked what they were doing and appreciated each other.

Everyone made a contribution to my recovery, from the support staff workers who kept my room clean to the food service staff who prepared and served delicious meals, to the professional therapists physical, occupational and speech, all levels of nursing, case management and the psychiatrist. They were good people doing outstanding work.
