Augusta police have identified the man who was injured Saturday in a bicycle crash on Water Street.

Michael Begin, 41, of Augusta, reportedly was not wearing a helmet when he struck a light pole at 3:47 p.m. Saturday while riding down Rines Hill on Water Street.

He was taken initially to MaineGeneral Medical Center, but he has been admitted to Maine Medical Center in Portland in critical condition.

Lt. Chris Read said no one else was involved in the crash and no charges will be filed.
