The public is invited to attend an open house from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Hodgkins School Apartments, at 17 Malta St.

There will be live music, food and a cash bar at the former school, which is the Augusta Housing Authority’s first, and most recent, major development project. It has 47 rental units for residents age 55 and older. All of the units have been rented out and will soon be occupied.

The city still technically owns the Hodgkins building but has turned it over to the housing authority with a 90-year lease for $1 a year.

The city had been considering demolishing the Hodgkins building when the housing authority proposed, instead, to convert it into housing, in an $8.5 million redevelopment project.
