Willis Moulton

A Scarborough man was arrested Tuesday night after he allegedly threatened to shoot a woman inside a home on Black Point Road.

Black Point Road, which winds past Scarborough Beach State Park and the Prouts Neck Country Club before ending at the Black Point Inn, was shut down for about two hours.

Scarborough police received a 911 emergency call at 6:15 p.m. from a woman who reported that a man in her home “was intoxicated and had pointed a handgun at her,” the department said in a press release posted on the department’s Facebook page.

By the time officers arrived, the woman had escaped, but the man – identified as 74-year-old Willis Moulton – remained in the home.

“Officers were able to make contact with the suspect via loud speaker and eventually convinced him to leave the residence unarmed. The handgun was later recovered from inside the residence,” police said.

Moulton was arrested on a charge of domestic violence criminal threatening. He was transported to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland where he was being held Tuesday night without bail pending his arraignment Wednesday afternoon.
