Sassafrass Stomp will perform its high-energy folk music from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, in a tent overlooking the back fields of Pumpkin Vine Family Farm, 217 Hewett Road, in Somerville.

Chrissy Fowler, the dance caller, specializes in teaching contra dance to beginners and children. Farms have always been a gathering place for community celebrations, and the owners of the Somerville farm are excited to be reviving this tradition.

Sassafrass Stomp, the husband and wife duo of Adam Nordell and Johanna Davis, perform traditional fiddle tunes and old ballads from the various branches of Celtic and old-time family trees as well as their own original material. They back their harmony vocals with fiddle, banjo, guitar, shruti box and foot percussion. When they are not performing, they also are the farmers of Songbird Farm in Unity, where they grow heirloom grains. For more information, visit sassafrassstomp.com.

Tickets cost $10 per person or $25 per family (two adults and any number of children). To save a space call 549-3096 or email info@pumpkinvinefamilyfarm.com. To learn more about the farm, visit pumpkinvinefamilyfarm.com.
