FAIRFIELD — A man hit a cement truck Tuesday morning after accidentally pulling into the off-ramp for Interstate 95 on Route 201, according to police.
Gerald Bailey, of Waterville, was driving a 2002 Chrysler Concord down Route 201, also known as Skowhegan Road, when he started to enter the off-ramp for the highway by accident, Officer Blake Wilder said.
It’s unclear why he entered the incorrect ramp at first.
Once Bailey realized his mistake, Wilder said he tried to pull back across the road, but didn’t see the truck coming in the opposite direction.
The Mattingly truck, driven by Brandon Locke, 28, of Skowhegan, had no where to go, Wilder said.
Bailey hit the truck in the side, damaging both vehicles.
Bailey’s wife Barbara, 62, complained of lower back and hip pain, said Wilder, who was not sure if Barbara Bailey was taken to the hospital, but Delta Ambulance did respond to the scene.
The Baileys’ car sustained front-end damage and was towed. The cement truck sustained minor damage on its passenger side.
