WASHINGTON — A leisurely canoe/kayak paddle on Crystal Lake is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 3. The group will meet at the public boat launch, which is part of Nelson-Butterfield Town Park on Crystal Lake Road.

The paddle is sponsored by Medomak Valley Land Trust and Washington Lakes Watershed Association.

Environmental educator and Maine Guide Rob Stenger will lead the paddle. Stenger is a frequent paddler on Washington’s lakes and will share his knowledge of Crystal Lake’s features and identify wildlife and vegetation participants might see in and around the pond. He serves as a volunteer water quality monitor for the association and can discuss how testing is done and the usefulness of the findings for those interested.

Participants should come with their boat, paddle and pfd/life vest. Paddlers younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants should bring water, sunscreen and a shirt or jacket in case there’s a change in the weather.

Crystal Lake is an easy paddle and will take about an hour and a half.
