As students board the mythical Hogwarts Express today to go to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry of Harry Potter fame, Time is out with a trove of data breaking down the results of its sorting quiz.
Of course Maine is Gryffindor.
While no other state east of the Mississippi River sorted into Harry Potter’s home house, Maine shows its iconoclastic colors once again. Ravenclaw dominated New England and represented over 45 percent of the U.S. as a whole.
To add to Maine’s standout result, Portland residents were most likely to sort into Slytherin, the least-popular house in the country with just over 5 percent. People sorted into Slytherin were overwhelmingly younger than the rest of respondents, and Portland is younger than the state of Maine as a whole.
