GARDINER — District 4 City Councilor Philip Hart, who has served on the City Council for three decades, announced Wednesday he does not plan to run again.
Hart said he and his wife have an opportunity that arose suddenly to downsize and although he had collected signatures, he is now not running.
“It might be good news for some, or bad news for some,” Hart said.
In his time on the City Council, he has advocated for the city’s taxpayers by recommending cuts to spending and signaling his positions through his votes.
Mayor Thom Harnett and the City Council thanked Hart for his service with a standing ovation.
Hart’s term is up at the end of the year.
