WATERVILLE, — Aqua City Actors Theatre will launch Between the Lines, a new play reading series presented in partnership with the Waterville Public Library and Waterville Creates!
The play reading series complements ACAT’s main series of staged productions in their 2017-18 season: Maine, Manners and Mayhem.
The play will debut at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, in Studio 93 at The Center, 93 Main St.
A reading of Oscar Wilde’s “A Woman of No Importance,” will be presented. Part comedy of manners and part melodrama, “A Woman of No Importance” satirizes upper-class English society at the end of the 19th century. Oscar Wilde’s society play explores themes of gender inequality and moral hypocrisy during the Victorian era — issues that resonate as much today as they did over a century ago. The play also contains a wealth of quotable witticisms, for which Wilde is known.
Admission is free. An open discussion between actors and audience will follow the reading.
