Uber has dramatically enhanced the way Americans move around our cities. Airbnb has improved the way millions of Americans travel. Social media has revolutionized the way we connect, communicate and do business.

Yet, for many in my generation, we are left wondering, why has it been more than 30 years since we fixed our federal tax code to simplify the law and lower the rates?

I applaud President Donald Trump for pushing to bring 21st-century innovation to the federal tax code. It is time we get serious about this problem.

President Trump’s goal of lowering the rates for families and simplifying the code so Americans can file their taxes on a single sheet of paper matches the type of innovation Americans deserve and expect.

The last time the tax code was reformed, most accountants used adding machines and typewriters to complete an American family’s taxes. Look at where the world has come since then.

The American people deserve that type of innovation and improvement from their government. Let’s make sure that in the process they get to keep more of their hard-earned money.

Please call Maine’s members of Congress and United States senators and urge them to support a meaningful overhaul of our tax code.
