Goodwill launches Augusta-area employment program
Goodwill recently launched a new program to help Augusta-area people find and keep good jobs to help them lead more stable lives, according to a press release from Goodwill.
The program is enrolling participants and seeking business partnerships in the area now. Businesses need to be willing to work with participants as volunteers and potentially future employees. In Augusta, participants need to be eligible for SNAP to become a Job Connection client.
Augusta’s Job Connection gives each participant a life navigator (who is a licensed social worker) to help them with life’s challenges and a career adviser to help them with a plan and job training to get a career that meets their interests and skills.
Job Connection participants have more than one barrier to employment, things like anxiety, a criminal background, a history of drug use, generational poverty or mental health issues. Life Navigator, Christine Audet, works with people to help them overcome each barrier and connect them to the resources they need.
Job Connection gives people work experiences, to test if a career would be a good match for them.
